People who have been accused of committing drug offenses often face serious consequences and may not know which step to take next. In Dallas and throughout Texas, drug crime convictions can lead to a wide variety of hardships that may be permanent, such as struggling to secure a decent job or impacting relationships with loved ones. Because of the seriousness of these accusations, people in this position should carefully evaluate their options.
Law enforcement officials recently took a Texas chemistry teacher and her husband into custody after allegedly discovering two ounces of methamphetamine, other drugs and a shotgun in their home. The teacher was reportedly apprehended at the high school she taught at and had drug recipes in her backpack at the time of her arrest.
Some of the woman's neighbors were surprised when they found out about the drug charges and did not think the couple were the kind of people who would be involved in these illegal activities. The sheriff's office is continuing to investigate the case and bond has been set at $50,000 for the 29-year-old teacher.
There are different drug charges some people face, including possession of drug paraphernalia, intent to distribute and drug trafficking. Not only do the penalties for different crimes vary, but each situation is unique. As a result, people who are dealing with this should make sure they understand each and every option before making any decisions and may want to contact a legal professional for assistance. Once the best course of action is identified, people going through this can try to put their best foot forward in court.
