From copyright infringement to identity theft and cyber bullying, there are all sorts of web-related crimes people can be accused of committing. Internet crimes are serious charges that have the potential to permanently change someone's life, whether they live in Dallas, Texas, or anywhere else in the nation. These accusations may cause someone to spend a significant amount of time behind bars or have a troubled reputation that never goes away. As a result, it is crucial for people in this position to explore all of their options.
Law enforcement officials recently took three men into custody in California after they reportedly gathered evidence connecting them to identity theft. Officials believe the suspects were using stolen credit card data to order and receive merchandise online, according to a Simi Valley Police Department news release.
The police department also claimed that hundreds of victims throughout the country were targeted by the alleged identity thieves, who reportedly hacked the data from websites and stole information from two other businesses. Authorities apparently found out about the trio's identity theft activity after they discovered evidence in one suspect's home when he was taken into custody for unrelated drug crimes.
When someone has been charged with an internet crime, they could be unsure of how to move forward. Unfortunately, some people are convicted of crimes they never committed because their case wasn't handled properly in court. People who have found themselves in this situation may want to reach out to an experienced criminal defense attorney who can help them take the right approach.
